Online Therapy

The pandemic coupled with today's busy life styles has given rise to the ever growing popularity of online therapy, in the form of zoom or Microsoft teams. Research suggests that this means of therapy is as effective as face to face. Individuals are able to undertake their therapy sessions from the comfort of their own home or even from the work place. However, some individuals feel too exposed working virtually face to face and prefer to have their therapy sessions over the telephone.

Telephone Therapy

Therapy sessions conducted by telephone have also grown in popularity due to the pandemic. This means of therapy is attractive to those individuals that feel more comfortable conveying their concerns without being seen. This can enable the person to be more forthcoming with sensitive information whilst protecting one's vulnerability. Our clients have said it is like hiding behind a screen which has made them feel safer. In our experience, this platform appears to appeal to the older individual who may feel quite anxious contemplating using zoom or Microsoft teams. One of the downsides of telephone and online therapy is that once the session is over the individuals is often left in the same space with their thoughts. It can feel like there is no separation from the session and one's home life. In this instance, we encourage the client to go for a walk if possible once the session is completed in order to collect themselves and regroup.

Walk and Talk Therapy

Due to the pandemic and individuals not feeling comfortable undertaking therapy sessions with family members in the house, we have seen a fast increase in this type of therapy. This is also popular with nature lovers who find the outdoors beneficial for their mental health and wellbeing. As a result, walk and talk therapy can be easily implemented into their current self-care routine. Some people who struggle to walk long distances choose to find a quiet spot in a nearby country park or perhaps by a lake or in the woods. With the ability to download zoom or Microsoft teams to one's mobile phone, this is a convenient way to indulge in a self-care protocol such as psychological therapy.

This way of working with the therapist can be very beneficial to those individuals who find it hard to articulate how the feel.
Read and write emails at a time that suits you. There is no need for an appointment. The cost of this type of therapy is calculated by how long the therapists needs to consider, reflect and respond to the clients concerns. Emails are answered by us within 24 hours.
Take as much time as you like to get your thoughts and feelings down in writing. Writing down the things that are on your mind is very helpful in itself as this can de clutter your mind. We find our clients often email us before going to bed. This can also aid in a more restful sleep. Articulating your thoughts, feelings and concerns in writing can begin to give insight into what is happening in your life. It allows you and the therapist time to consider issues and solutions to your concerns and troubles more thoroughly and efficiently. Using a keyboard as a way of communication is effective for individuals who feel too vulnerable speaking about their problems out loud, or are more at ease or familiar with the writing things, such as those individuals who often journal. As the client, you are able to record what is on your mind as it occurs. Writing in comfortable and familiar space can reduce potential anxiety, allowing you to be more open than you might be face-to-face. You are also able to look back and reread conversation history, this is especially useful to individuals who have cognitive difficulties that are potentiated by increased anxiety
